MALAPPURAM: An attempted murder in Veenalukkal, near Vengara in Malappuram, is suspected to be the result of discord over a romantic relationship. Suhaib, a 28-year-old madrasa teacher, was attacked by 18-year-old Rashid, who later surrendered to the police.

Police said that the motive behind the attack is believed to be Rashid's anger over Suhaib's request for him to end a relationship with a relative. However, Suhaib, currently receiving treatment for his injuries, claims to have no prior connection with Rashid and hasn't met him.

The incident occurred near Suhaib's residence. Rashid, after enquiring about Suhaib's whereabouts, waited for an hour before attacking him as he returned from work around 9 p.m. Rashid, riding a scooter, followed Suhaib and inflicted seven cuts on his body and legs.

Following the attack, Rashid fled the scene. He later surrendered to the Vengara police station at approximately 3 a.m. Rashid, who had been residing in Abu Dhabi with his parents, returned to Kerala to pursue his Plus Two studies. Suhaib, having overcome his critical condition, is currently being treated at a private hospital. Police have registered a case of attempted murder.
