NEW DELHI: The authorities have imposed a strict ban on taking files, documents and electronic records from the Secretariat following the BJP's landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly elections. Private security guards have been deployed at all floors of the Secretariat and CCTV surveillance has been tightened. More police have also been deployed for security.
Although the general administration department said that the action is to protect documents and files, reports suggest that the action is to find evidence to implicate members of the former cabinet and MLAs. BJP centers said that many things related to the controversial liquor policy and the beautification of ministerial buildings are yet to come to light.
The ban also applies to the offices of the present chief minister and other ministers. It has also been instructed not to allow anyone who does not disclose clear documents and intentions to enter the Secretariat or its surrounding areas. The authorities have also denied reports that the Secretariat was completely sealed after the BJP's victory. The authorities said the new order is a precaution to prevent the loss of documents and confidential files. However, the Aam Aadmi Party has not yet responded to the new restrictions.
When the election results were announced yesterday, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party was defeated miserably. The former chief minister and the entire Aam Aadmi Party, including Arvind Kejriwal had lost. The BJP won 48 of the 70 assembly seats. In 2020, the party got only eight seats. The AAP, which had won 62 seats then, was reduced to 22 seats by the BJP this time.
