Renowned watercolor specialist Mopasang Valath dies aged 68

KOCHI: Renowned painter Mopasang Valath passed away on Tuesday. He was 68. Mopasang, a native of Cheranallur, was undergoing treatment for pneumonia in Aster medicity Ernakulam. Mopasang is the son of the famous historian VVK Valath.

Mopasang was the publication manager of the Kottayam Sahithya Pravarthaka Co-operative Society and he lived in Aishwarya Gardens, Kottayam, Putthanangadi. The mortal remains will be placed for public viewing in the east room of Kottayam DC from 9.30 to 10.30 pm on Wednesday. The cremation will be held at 2.30 pm at Muttambalam Crematorium in Kottayam.

Mopasang leaves behind his wife Mini (Ret. BSNL). Children: Van Gogh (digital painter) and Angel Pearl. Son-in-law: Abhay Krishnan. Teachers Einstein Wallet and writer Socrates Wallet are his brothers.

Throughout his career, Mopasang stunned and inspired many with his watercolour paintings. His repertoire speaks volumes as much as his esoteric followers. His famous works include the Navarasa series featuring Padma Shree Kalamandalam Gopi, which is now kept inside the Cochin International Airport. He is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award.
