MUMBAI: Maharashtra Cyber Police has booked famous podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia and comedian Samay Raina for making obscene remarks on India's Got Latent show. A case has been registered against 30 persons and summons will be sent to all of them for questioning.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma announced on social media about police taking a suo moto case against Allahbadia and Raina in Assam. Maharashtra Women's Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar received a complaint about the show and instructed the police department to stop the telecast. At the same time, the controversial episode has been removed from YouTube. Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina apologized after the controversial remark sparked protests.
The 'sex with parents' joke made by Ranveer in the show caused widespread abomination, even from top politicians. According to reports, Ranveer has lost almost 5000 followers on his Instagram page after the controversy blew up. It is said that many brands have also revoked their association with the podcaster. With many politicians coming into the fray demanding serious action against Ranveer, there are also debates on the other side on whether the politicians in India are overreacting to a crass joke.
