AHMEDABAD: No miracles happened. England's batting line-up stumbled like a pack of cards in front of the Indian bowling attack as the home team won the Third ODI in emphatic style at Ahmedabad. Chasing a target of 357 runs, England were bowled out for 214 runs in 35 overs. Only Gus Atkinson (38), Tom Banton (38 off 41 balls) and Ben Duckett (34) showed signs of fight.
England's openers, who played aggressively at the start, had at one point taken the score to 62 runs in just six overs. Ben Duckett (34) was the first to be dismissed. Later, Phil Salt followed suit. Arshdeep, Harshit Rana, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel took two wickets each while Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each.
India after losing the toss and electing to bat, lost captain Rohit Sharma (1) early on. However, vice-captain Shubman Gill, who joined Kohli, put in a brilliant performance on his home ground. Gill was dismissed after scoring his seventh ODI century of his career. Gill scored 112 runs in 102 balls. Gill's innings consisted of 14 fours and three sixes. On the other hand, Kohli gave signs that he is returning to his form today. Kohli scored his 73rd half-century in his career. Shreyas Iyer, who came in after Kohli was dismissed by a great ball from Adil Rashid, put in a good performance by scoring 78 runs in 64 balls. KL Rahul (40), Hardik Pandya (17), Axar Patel (13), Washington Sundar (14), Harshit Rana (13) and Arshadeep (2) were the other contributors. India were all out for 356 in the stipulated 50 overs.
