THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have made a crucial finding regarding the murder of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, who was thrown into a well by her uncle in Balaramapuram. According to the police, the accused, Harikumar, acted alone in committing the crime. The police had previously revealed that Harikumar had confessed to the murder.
The investigation also uncovered that Harikumar had an unnatural relationship with his sister, Sreethu. The police stated that Harikumar committed the murder as he felt that the child was an obstacle to their relationship. On the day of the crime, Harikumar had reportedly instigated Sreethu for an illicit relationship. He sent a WhatsApp message asking her to come to his room. However, when she arrived, the child started crying, prompting Sreethu to leave. This reportedly angered Harikumar, leading him to commit the murder.
With his six-day police custody coming to an end, Harikumar was presented before the Neyyattinkara court yesterday and has been remanded in judicial custody. The police also interrogated Sreethu multiple times, suspecting her involvement in the crime, particularly since she had been arrested earlier in connection with a financial fraud case. The interrogation aimed to confirm whether Sreethu had any involvement in the murder. However, the police ultimately concluded that Harikumar acted alone.
The police are now preparing to file the charge sheet soon. The crime, which occurred on January 30, shocked the entire state. While the police managed to arrest the accused within hours of the incident becoming public, several suspicions and unanswered questions had initially surrounded the case.
