KOTTAYAM: Prof. Sulekha A.T, the Principal of Kottayam Government Nursing College and Assistant Professor Ajeesh P. Mani, who was in charge as the Assistant Warden, have been suspended pending investigation in connection with the ragging incident at the college hostel. The action was taken after it was found that they failed to prevent or intervene in the ragging incident. Additionally, the Housekeeper-cum-Security staff has been immediately removed from duty. The decision was based on an inquiry conducted by the Director of Medical Education following the directive of Health Minister Veena George.
Five senior students were arrested and remanded for 14 days in connection with the ragging case at the boys' hostel of Gandhinagar Government Nursing College. Among the ragging victims, five are from Thiruvananthapuram, while one is from Idukki.
The arrested students are Kottayam Moonnilavu native Samuel (20), Koruthodu native Vivek (21), Wayanad Pulpally native Jeeva (19), Manjeri Kacherippadi native Rigiljith (20) Wandoor native Rahul Raj (22). All five students have been suspended from the college. The college authorities informed that a commission has been set up for further investigation. The ragging incident came to light after one of the victims informed his parents about the matter.
