KOCHI: The police will file a charge sheet on Saturday in the brutal murder of three members of a family in Chendamangalam. The incident that shook the state took place on the 16th of last month. A youngster named Rithu Jayan broke into his neighbour’s house and brutally thrashed three people to death with an iron rod. Kattuparambil Venu, his wife Usha and daughter Vinisha were beaten to death by the accused.

Vinisha's husband, Jitin, who was seriously injured, is still undergoing treatment and is in critical condition. The police have also confirmed that the accused, who was constantly taking drugs, does not have a mental disorder. In the charge sheet, it is also mentioned that Rithu was sober at the time of the crime. More than a hundred witnesses and about fifty supporting evidence are included in the charge sheet.

Rithu is a history-sheeter, involved in five other cases. He has been under police surveillance since 2021. The locals blamed the police for letting loose Rithu all this time, despite knowing his demonic instincts. Disputes between Rithu and the deceased Venu's family were frequent for three years. According to police, Rithu had planned the murders in advance. There is a report that the accused confessed to seeking revenge right after he killed the trio.
