Husband, parents inject woman with HIV-infected syringe for failing to meet dowry demands of Rs 25 lakh and Scorpio

MEERUT: A complaint filed alleged that a woman was injected with an HIV infected syringe by her husband and in-laws after her family failed to meet the demands of dowry. The complaint was filed by the woman's father. Following court order, the police have registered a case and started an investigation.

The woman got married in 2023. The groom was Sachin, son of Nathiram Saini from Haridwar. A SUV and Rs 15 lakh were given as dowry. Although things went smoothly for some time, he later started demanding more dowry. The groom and his family wanted a Scorpio car and Rs 25 lakh as dowry. However, the woman's family was not ready to pay this. With this, the woman was kicked out of her marital home.

The grama panchayat later intervened and the woman was sent back to her husband's house. The complaint said that she was subjected to physical and mental harassments. He often beat her for no reason. The woman's family alleged that she was injected with HIV infected syringe.

The woman's health deteriorated and after a medical examination revealed that she was HIV positive. Though her husband was tested, he tested negative. A complaint was filed with the police, but they refused to file a case. She along with her father approached the court with the complaint. Following the court order, the police registered a case against the woman's husband and his parents. The police said that an investigation has been launched into the incident.
