Swaraj Trophy winners announced; Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram bag first positions as best Corporation and District Panchayat

THRISSUR: Minister MB Rajesh announced the state government's Swaraj Awards for the best local bodies. Best District Panchayat Kollam. Best Corporation Thiruvananthapuram. Best Municipality Guruvayur. Best Block Panchayat Perumpadappu in Malappuram. Best Panchayat Veliyannoor in Kottayam.

Thiruvananthapuram bagged the second position among the best district panchayats. Thrissur's Wadakkanchery bagged the second position among the best municipalities, while Kannur's Anthoor Municipality bagged the third position. Thrissur's Kodakara bagged the second position and Kasaragod's Nileswaram bagged the third position among the best blocks. Thiruvananthapuram's Uzhamalakkal bagged the second position among the best panchayats, while Thrissur's Mattathur bagged the third position.

The first place in the Mahatma Ayyankali Award went to Wadakkanchery Municipality, Thrissur. The first place among corporations was won by Kollam. The Life Mission Award - Best Panchayat Malappuram Amarambalam, second place for Kollam Kulathupuzha. The first place for municipalities was won by Perinthalmanna and second place was won by Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and Ottapalam Municipality.

The first place winner will receive Rs 50 lakh, the second place winner Rs 40 lakh and the third place winner Rs 30 lakh. The first place panchayat at the district level will receive Rs 20 lakh and the second place winner Rs 10 lakh. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will distribute the awards at the closing ceremony of the LSG Day celebrations to be held in Guruvayur on the 19th.
