THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BEVCO has come up with a new change to prevent the theft of liquor. The move is to fix radio frequency identification locks on bottles. The bottles from now on will be kept in shelves after bolted with this lock. The employees will give the bottles to the needy after changing the lock. If anyone tries to flee with the bottle without removing this lock, the sensor installed on the door outside will beep.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) locks are being fixed on liquor bottles worth more than Rs 1,000. The first trial is being conducted at the Thiruvananthapuram Powerhouse outlet, which has the highest sales. Liquor worth Rs 60,000 was stolen from here.
CMD Harshita Attaluri said this system will be extended to all premium outlets after a month. Based on the complaints received by the police, liquor worth Rs 4 lakh were stolen from BEVCO. It has also been decided to install QR codes on the bottles from April to prevent the sale of counterfeit liquor.
