NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has strongly criticized YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia for making controversial obscene remarks on the YouTube show 'India's Got Latent'. He has also been banned from hosting shows. A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotishwar Singh observed that Ranveer has "something dirty in his mind which has been vomited."
"Ranveer and his fellow YouTubers made shameless remarks. This is degradation. The words which you have used, parents will feel shamed. Sisters and daughters will feel ashamed. Entire society will feel shamed. He is insulting parents also. If you can try to attain cheap publicity by saying these kind of things, there might be others also who might want to get cheap publicity by making threats? There is something very dirty in his mind, which has been vomited by him in the program. When interacting with a society that preserves values, one should be responsible as a citizen. The rule of law should be respected," the Supreme Court reminded.
"The court does not live in an ivory tower. The council understand that it was copied from an Australian show. However, there will be a warning there that children and senior citizens should not watch this show."
Relief from arrest, with conditions
The court has accepted the YouTuber's request for protection from arrest. The arrest has been blocked in cases registered in the states of Maharashtra, Assam and Rajasthan. No more FIRs are required for controversial remarks. They should cooperate with the investigation. Ranveer and his fellow YouTubers involved in the controversy should not participate in any show. Passports should be deposited at Thane police station. Prior permission from the Supreme Court should be obtained for foreign travel.
