PALAKKAD: Police have registered a case against an engineering student for sharing photos of his classmates on Instagram with obscene captions. The accused is Yadu S Kumar, a fourth-year Computer Science student at an engineering college in Palakkad.

The accused shared the photos through a fake Instagram account. Last Friday, students filed a complaint with the principal, who then forwarded it to the police. Yadu’s phone and laptop have been taken into police custody. The case has been registered under Section 67A of the IT Act, which is a non-bailable offence.

In a separate incident, an 18-year-old student was booked for allegedly selling photos of classmates and teachers on Telegram. The accused, Adithya Dev, a native of Thikkodi, secretly captured photos of his classmates and teachers inside classrooms without their knowledge. He then listed these photos for sale on a Telegram channel for Rs 39. When students became aware of the matter, they reported it to the management, which immediately informed the police. Complaints were filed at both the Kozhikode Cyber Police Station and Kasaba Police Station. The management also confirmed that the student had been suspended.
