NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a campaign urging prominent figures across the country, including Malayalam actor Mohanlal, to join the fight against obesity. He presented the campaign during his monthly radio program, Mann Ki Baat. Modi selected ten well-known individuals from various fields and urged them to reduce their oil consumption by 10%. He announced their names through social media.
"I would like to nominate the following people to help strengthen the fight against obesity and spread awareness on reducing edible oil consumption in food. I also request them to nominate ten more people each so that our movement gets bigger," Modi said on X.
The ten individuals nominated by the Prime Minister for the challenge are Anand Mahindra, Dinesh Lal Yadav, Manu Bhaker, Mirabai Chanu, Mohanlal, Nandan Nilekani, Omar Abdullah, Madhavan, Shreya Ghoshal and Sudha Murty.
Modi highlighted the importance of reducing oil intake in food, as excessive consumption contributes to heart disease and high blood pressure. He emphasized that being mindful of food choices is also a responsibility towards one’s family. He added that even small changes in eating habits could make future generations healthier, helping them stay free from diseases and ensuring overall well-being.
