KASARAGOD: A 21-year-old woman has approached the court against her husband for sending triple talaq message on WhatsApp. The woman of Kalluravi approached the court against Abdul Razak of Nellikkara. Abdul Razak working in the Gulf, sent a voice message to his father-in-law's phone announcing the divorce on February 21. Razak also alleged that the woman has some mental issues.
The woman had filed a complaint against her husband the other day. This is the first complaint received by the police in the district after the Triple Talaq Prohibition Act came into force. The complaint alleged that her husband, who is abroad, sent a voice message on her father's phone saying that he had pronounced talaq thrice. The two got married on August 8 in 2022. The couple then registered with the Kanhangad Municipality according to Muslim rituals.
Her complaint said that six months after her marriage, her husband and in-laws harassed her for more dowry. Abdul Razak also sold her jewelry of 20 sovereigns which she wore at the time of her marriage. She said that his family had demanded gold of 50 sovereigns during their engagement and tortured her constantly for the remaining gold.
'Her mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law harassed her. They would lock her in her room without giving her food. They will not take her to the hospital if she was sick. This went on for two and a half years. At this time, her husband behaved well and so she suffered everything. Don’t know the reason for the talaq. Her father also alleged that Abdul Razak extorted Rs 12 lakh from him. Hosdurg police are investigating the incident.
