Wild elephant tranquilized after entering populated area in Kannur; jaw broken, condition critical

KANNUR: A wild elephant that ventured into a populated area in Karikkottakary was tranquilized by a team from the Forest Department. The team, led by Veterinary Doctor Ajeesh Mohandas, administered the tranquilizer. The elephant was spotted in the Karikkottakary area earlier this morning. It was found with a wound on its mouth. The injury is said to be serious.

The elephant, which had a wound on its jaw, was in a condition where it could neither eat nor drink water. The young elephant, which reached Iritty yesterday, arrived in the populated area of Karikkottakary this morning. The elephant, tranquilized with a dart, was moved onto the Forest Department's elephant ambulance. The animal is in a severely weakened state, and efforts are being made to provide it with expert medical treatment.
