BEIJING: China is seeking possibilities to move forward in cooperation with India amidst the ongoing adverse developments at the border. Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi said that this is a time for India and China to work together. His remarks come amid escalating trade tensions, with former U.S. President Donald Trump announcing reciprocal tariffs on various countries. In this context, Wang Yi urged India and China to play a central role in countering power politics and global hegemony.
Wang Yi stated that in the new global context, both India and China should collaborate and move forward together instead of engaging in activities that undermine each other. He remarked that "achieving the dragon and elephant dance together" is the only correct choice for both sides," referring to India-China cooperation.
With the two largest economic powers in Asia joining forces, international relations will become more democratic. He added that a bright future for the development and strengthening of "global prosperity" lies ahead.
"China and India are neighbours. China always believes that both countries should be partners that contribute to each other's success. Our cooperation should safeguard the fundamental interests of citizens of both countries," Wang Yi said.
In February, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had a meeting with Wang Yi, and it is noteworthy that his statement follows that meeting. As neighboring countries, India and China should contribute to mutual success, he said. In October 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a meeting in Russia.
