MALAPPURAM: A leopard attacked a man, who was going on a bike. The incident happened Sunday morning at around 7 am at Mampad in Malappuram. The victim identified as Muhammadali, a labourer from Naduvakkad, has been admitted in the hospital. Reports said the injuries he sustained are not serious.

The incident occurred while he was going to buy some groceries. He was going slow and suddenly the leopard from the road jumped on his body. The leopard tried to bite him but could not. He fell from the bike and sustained injuries on his hands and legs from the claws of the leopard. People who came to know about the incident took him to the hospital. As soon as he fell from the bike, the leopard ran away into the nearby bushes.

Mampad is an area adjacent to the forest. Leopards are often seen here. The leopard's visuals were also captured on the cameras in houses. A leopard was seen here two days ago. However, locals said that this is the first incident of a leopard attack in the area.

Following the attack on Muhammadali, locals and forest department officials intensified search for the leopard. However, they have not been able to find it yet. The locals are worried as it was aggressive. They are demanding that the authorities take steps to ease their fear as soon as possible.
