'Girl next door for Malayalees, most underrated actress for me': Malayalam superstar's rare praise of Kavya Madhavan

It has been almost a decade since Kavya Madhavan decided to call it a day on her acting career, but the former actress continues to hold sway over the audience. This is mostly due to the many 'girl next door' characters she played to perfection on screen. There was a time when directors fought tooth and nail to get her dates since her mere presence on screen was believed to draw audiences in droves to theatres.

Now, actor Prithviraj’s old interview, where he mentions Kavya Madhavan, is doing the rounds on social media.

"Kavya Madhavan is the most underrated actress in the industry. Malayalees see Kavya as the girl next door, the exemplar of a village beauty and such similar characters. But for me, Kavya is one of the best actresses India has ever seen. Only a few films have done justice to bring out the real actress in her. I was able to see her magic on set. It happened in the movie ‘Vasthavam’ which I consider one of her finest work. I don’t think Kavya received any such role to mete out her acting prowess like she did in Vasthavam."
