KONNI: A 64-year-old man attempted suicide after failing to receive his deposit from the Konni Regional Cooperative Bank. Anandan, a native of Konni, is currently undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College Hospital, where he is on a ventilator.
Anandan was expecting to receive Rs 11 lakh from the bank and had visited the bank the previous day to request his money. However, his request was not fulfilled. The incident occurred despite a High Court order directing the bank to release the funds on a priority basis. In frustration over the delay, Anandan reportedly mixed pills with alcohol and attempted to end his life.
In response to the incident, the bank's secretary clarified that Anandan had not been treated badly by the staff. "Anandan visited the bank recently and collected the interest for three months. Aside from that, there have been no other issues at the bank. The bank is facing financial difficulties and needs to pay money to several other depositors," the secretary said.
