Complaint against Kozhikode Medical College after woman dies during hysterectomy

KOZHIKODE: A complaint has been filed against Kozhikode Medical College Hospital alleging medical negligence. Vilasini (57) of Perambra died during hysterectomy. She died Wednesday early morning. She died during hysterectomy, a surgery to remove the uterus. Her relatives alleged that her intestines suffered injuries during surgery and this led to her death. She was admitted to the hospital on March 4 for hysterectomy.


The doctors had informed that her intestines were slightly injured during the surgery. They informed that there were stitches but there was nothing to worry about. She was shifted to the ward on February 8. The doctors informed that she be given normal food from Sunday. When she started eating normal food, her stomach pain increased. She was then shifted to the ICU. The doctors informed on Monday that she had an infection and needs immediate surgery. Although a surgery was conducted, her health deteriorated by Tuesday and died this morning. Relatives said they tried to shift her to another hospital but could not as her health worsened. Meantime, the hospital said that she died of heart attack.
