KANNUR: An eight-month-old baby is in a critical condition after given a wrong medicine from a medical store. The incident occurred at Pazhayangadi in Kannur. The baby, son of Sameer of Pazhyangadi is in a critical condition.

The complaint is that instead of giving the medicine prescribed by the doctor another medicine of high overdose was given. Reports said the medicine given badly affected the functioning of the baby’s liver. The doctor prescribed a syrup for fever and it was clearly written in the prescription. However, the medical store instead of giving syrup gave drops. Without realizing that the medicine was changed, the parents gave him the same quantity of drops as the syrup. The baby's health condition deteriorated after a while. When they contacted the doctor who prescribed the medicine, came to know about the change in medicine. As per the doctor's instructions, the baby was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Kannur. Although the baby's health condition is still serious, the hospital authorities indicated that it has improved when compared to yesterday.

The baby's relatives also alleged that when they asked about the medical store about it, they behaved badly. When asked again about it, the medical store asked them to file a case. The police have registered a case against Khadija Medicals in Pazhayangadi following the complaint.
