NEW DELHI: Delhi Capitals have finally announced their new captain for the IPL 2025 season. All-rounder Axar Patel has been named as the captain for this season. Axar was chosen after KL Rahul, who was brought in for a whopping Rs 14 crore, announced that he was not interested in becoming the captain.
Delhi bought Axar for Rs 16.50 crore in the recent IPL auction. The player has been playing for Delhi since 2019. Axar was the team's vice-captain in the India-England T20 series held in January.
Axar has been batting at number four in ODIs since Gambhir became the team's coach. Axar, who also excelled in bowling, played a key role in India's Champions Trophy victory. Axar has played 82 matches in the IPL for Delhi. Axar scored 235 runs and took 11 wickets in the 2024 season. Axar started his Twenty20 career in 2013. Axar has scored 3088 runs in 274 matches and taken 239 wickets at an average of 27.15.
