CHANDIGARH: In a dastardly incident, a BJP leader in Haryana was shot dead in Sonipat district of Haryana on Saturday. Mundlana BJP constituency president Surendra Jawahar was killed in the incident. The incident took place in Jawahar village at around 9:30 last night. Surendra was shot dead by his neighbor over a land dispute. The police have not released the identity of the accused.
The dispute revolved around a land which Surendra purchased in the name of a woman relative. Police said that the accused had warned Surendra not to set foot on the disputed land. However, it was Surendra's arrival here on Friday night that incensed the accused.
The accused brandished a gun which left Surendra run for his life. The BJP leader took shelter in a nearby shop but was chased down and shot dead by the accused. The accused fired three rounds at the BJP leader. Footage emerged of Surendra running into the shop and the accused following him and firing. Police said they have launched an investigation into the incident.
