THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reports said Shemi, mother of Afaan, accused in the Venjaramoodu massacre case, has expressed her desire to meet her son. She expressed her desire to her relatives who visited her presently accommodated in a special care center. Although her health condition has improved, it is reported that she has not fully recovered. The doctors examined her yesterday after she developed discomfort. The doctors said that she still has difficulty in eating food.

Meantime, the police are in the process of registering a new case by including a financial crime in the investigation into the massacres. This is following information that those who lent money to the family have received a large amount as interest. An investigation is underway on Afaan's debts. The family's financial liabilities are also being investigated. The police have already received information on the family taking loans from some money lending firms and individuals. They have also received documents showing that a large amount was paid monthly in interest alone.

Meantime, the police are planning to take Afaan into custody for the third phase of evidence collection. The Nedumangad Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court will pronounce the verdict tomorrow on the police' application for this. His custody is being sought for collecting evidence as part of the investigation into the murder of Afaan's younger brother and girlfriend Farsana.
