Police with shocking information in Kalamassery ganja case, widespread search in Kochi

KOCHI: More information surface in the incident of seizing cannabis from the hostel of Kalamassery Government Polytechnic College. Police said what is happening in the Kalamassery hostel is a joint drug trade. An investigation by the police found that those using drugs in the hostel are a gang and that student organizations do not have any influence inside the hostel. A large bundle of beedis were also recovered from the hostel room. The students in their statements to the police said they smoke ganja after filling them in beedis.


Meantime, the police have intensified drug hunt in Kochi. Searches were conducted in private hostels in CUSAT area and places where students live as paying guests. Two grams of cannabis were seized in a search conducted at the hostel Tamim in the CUSAT area. The police have taken Mohammad Saidali, a second-year student of Bharat Mata College and a native of Kollam, into custody. He was released on station bail that night.


The police clarified that Tamim Hostel is a permanent drug center and that equipment for smoking cannabis was seized from here. A large number of beer and liquor bottles were recovered from the hostel room. Large packets of intoxicants and cigarettes were found. More searches will be conducted in the coming days.
