Man attempts suicide after hitting aged mother-in-law on head, sets house on fire, both critical

KOLLAM: A 60-year-old man set the house on fire by opening the gas cylinder after brutally injuring his mother-in-law. The man has been identified as Maniappan. The incident happened Sunday morning at Meenambalam in Parippally. He attempted suicide by slitting his throat and wrist.

His mother-in-law, Ratnamma (80), has been seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at Parippally Medical College Hospital. Maniappan's health condition is also critical. Firefighters from Paravur arrived to douse the flames.
