KOCHI: A third-year mechanical engineering student, R.S. Anuraj (21) of K.S. Punnakkulam Madam, Karunagappally, who collected money to bring ganja for Holi celebrations at the Kalamassery Govt. Polytechnic College hostel, has been arrested. With this, the number of people arrested in the case of ganja seizure from the hostel has increased to six.
Former students Ashiq (20) of Aluva, Edayapparam Konnakkad Mallissery house and K.S. Shalik (21) of Purayam Desam Kallumkottil house, who are on remand, brought ganja to the hostel on Anuraj's request. An investigation has been intensified for a West Bengal native suspected of selling ganja to Ashiq and Shalik. It is reported that he has escaped the place.
It is reported that the accused bought four kilos of ganja from him. The police were able to find only two kilos. They are also investigating where the rest was transferred.
It is reported that the ganja was purchased at a cost of about ten thousand rupees per kilo. It was sold at the hostel for Rs. 16,000. The transaction was through advance booking and offer rates. It is also being investigated whether the drug was transferred from here to other campuses. The search has also been extended to the unidentified person who called Akash, the third-year student who was first arrested in the raid, asking, 'Are you safe?'
