ISLAMABAD: The terrorist Abu Qatal (43), sought by India, was killed by unknown assailants. He is the nephew of Hafiz Saeed, one of the masterminds behind the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The Lashkar-e-Taiba leader was killed on Saturday night in Dina, near Jhelum town in Pakistan's Punjab province.
According to reports, unknown assailants fired up to 20 rounds at Qatal's vehicle, which was traveling with security personnel. One security officer was killed, and another was seriously injured in the attack. Reports indicate that Qatal had been under the protection of the Pakistani military for a long period.
Meanwhile, Mufti Shah Mir, who had assisted Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI in abducting former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, was also recently shot dead by unknown assailants.
