MUMBAI: Security has been tightened at the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb following threats from BJP, Shiv Sena and VHP to demolish it. Bajrang Dal has also come forward with the same demand.
The organizations will demand this to the government today. They have threatened to raze the tomb if the government fails to take action. Aurangzeb's tomb is in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra.
Direct entry to Aurangzeb's tomb has been restricted. The memorial is located in Khultabad, 30 km from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. A platoon of State Reserve Police personnel has been deployed at the site. Six policemen are constantly guarding the tomb.
The VHP and Bajrang Dal have called for protests in front of all collectorates to strengthen the demand. BJP minister Nitesh Rana and former MP Navneet Rana had last week demanded that Aurangzeb's tomb be demolished. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that he would consider how to implement this legally. Aurangzeb's monument is currently under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India. Aurangzeb ruled from 1658 to 1707.
