THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala police warned people to be on their guard against the latest online scams spreading in the state. The latest fraud follows the process of sending messages to WhatsApp accounts under the pretext of vehicle fines for breaching traffic rules. The message would be deft in the content and a naïve person would have a hard time ruling out it as fake.

The message comes in the name of the Motor Vehicles Department. The vehicle number and other information in the message will be correct. Along with the message, a fake app or link will be created in the name of the Parivahan website. Even a single click on the link would result in people losing their money from bank accounts. Police have now warned people to ignore such messages and never open such links.

If you are a victim of online financial fraud, report it to 1930 within an hour. The sooner you report, the more likely you are to get your money back. The police also clarified that complaints can also be registered through the website www.cybercrime.gov.in.
