THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police completed the third phase of evidence collection with accused Afaan in the Venjarammoodu mass murder case on Tuesday. Evidence collection was conducted at seven locations, including his house in Perumala.
At around 9:30 in the morning, Afaan was brought to his house in Perumala. Afaan explained to police how he carried out the murder. According to Afaan, he picked up his brother from school and reached home, but the keys were missing. This forced the two to jump the wall and enter the house through the terrace.
After collecting evidence at home, the suspect was taken to the private financial institution where the necklace was pawned. He was also taken to the shop where he bought the hammer used in the murder, later to an ATM, a petrol pump, and the stationery shop where he bought the bag.
With the third phase of evidence collection completed, the investigation team will file the chargesheet at the earliest.
Afaan killed five including his brother and girlfriend in a case that shook the conscience of the state. Afaan also injured his mother, who is now undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Meanwhile, Afaan's mother, Shemi, still insists that she fell from the bed and injured herself. She even pleaded with police to release her son from prison.
