KALAMASSERY: Two more persons have been arrested in connection with the ganja seizure at the Kalamassery Polytechnic College hostel. The arrested individuals are Sohail Sheikh (24) and Ehint Mandal, both from other states. The arrested former students had earlier revealed that they had purchased the drugs from a Bengal native known as "Sohail Bhai."
The arrested students had also confessed to having bought ganja from Sohail on earlier occasions. For the past few days, Kalamassery police had been searching for Sohail. Sohail, a native of Murshidabad in West Bengal, had been residing in Aluva. Upon learning that ganja had been seized from the campus, Sohail went into hiding and turned off his mobile phone.
After receiving a tip-off that Sohail was in Muvattupuzha, police were able to locate and arrest him. At the time of his arrest, Sohail was with Ehint Mandal, a well-known ganja dealer. The police have yet to confirm whether Mandal is connected to the Kalamassery case. Further questioning will be conducted to determine if they had supplied ganja to other campuses. The Kalamassery police have stated that the case is now considered resolved with these arrests.
The illegal ganja trade at the college hostel reportedly started about six months ago. The arrested suspects had earlier disclosed that payments for the drugs were made through UPI transactions. Investigations based on their bank statements have helped trace the drug suppliers.
