KOLLAM: Former MP Chengara Surendran has been suspended from the CPI for one year. The action is based on financial irregularities related to the Guruvayur Devaswom Board. The suspension includes the primary membership of the party. The decision is taken by the CPI Kollam District Council. Kollam District Secretary P.S. Supal said that Chengara Surendran has been removed from all elected positions.
CPI State Secretary Binoy Vishwam had earlier received a complaint against Chengara Surendran in connection with the Devaswom Board corruption. Based on this, Binoy Vishwam had instructed to convene a district executive meeting. The complaint was discussed in the CPI Kollam District Council that met today. Action was taken based on the assessment that the explanation given by Chengara Surendran was not satisfactory.
