KOCHI: Three have been found guilty in the case of murdering herbal medicine healer Shaba Shareef of Mysuru. The court found first accused Shaibin Ashraf, second accused Shihabudeen and sixth accused Nishad guilty. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on March 22.

The charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, destruction of evidence, and conspiracy were proven. Twelve were acquitted. This is the first time in the state that a verdict is given in a case where no body or human parts have been found.

The case alleged that Shaba Shareef was abducted by the accused to Malappuram in 2019, held him captive for one and a half years. He was tortured, starved, chained, and a heavy roller was often used to crush his legs. He was tortured as he refused to part with the formula for his herbal medicine that claimed to cure piles.
