Heavy rainfall expected in Palakkad; Kerala to get respite from torturous heat

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rain is expected to bring solace to Kerala on Friday. The Meteorological Department has predicted a possibility of rain in Kerala for three days starting today.

A yellow alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts today. The heaviest rainfall is likely to occur in Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad districts on Saturday. A yellow alert has been issued for Malappuram and Wayanad districts on Sunday.

The Indian Meteorological Department has announced that there will be no restrictions on fishing along the Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts today.

  • Disconnect electrical appliances. Avoid proximity to electrical appliances during thunderstorms.
  • Avoid using the telephone during thunderstorms. It is safe to use a mobile phone.
  • If the weather is cloudy, avoid playing outdoors and on terraces, including with children.
  • Avoid going to the terrace to get clothes when you see a thunderstorm.
  • Lightning conductors can be installed on top of buildings to protect them from lightning strikes. Surge protectors can be installed to protect electrical equipment.
