KOCHI: In a shocking case of child abuse in Kuruppampadi, Perumbavoor, the police have taken the mother of the victims into custody. This action follows the arrest of taxi driver Ayyampuzha Madathiparambil Dhanesh Kumar (38), who confessed that the mother was aware of the abuse. The police recorded her statement again this evening before taking her into custody, with reports suggesting she may face arrest by night.

The woman and Dhanesh became close when they took her husband, who was ill, to the hospital. After her husband's death, she and her children moved into a house rented by Dhanesh. According to his statement, he frequently visited the house and decided to end his relationship with the woman, which led to him abusing her children. The abuse happened when the children's mother went to take a bath or went out.

Dhanesh had asked the elder child to bring one of her classmate girls to her home. A letter she wrote regarding this has reached the friends' mother, who was a teacher. This is how the case came to light.

Upon his arrest, police found sexual stimulant pills in Dhanesh Kumar's possession. The children are now under the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), which has confirmed that they are receiving counselling and are not facing any other issues. A police custody application for Dhanesh Kumar has been filed in the Perumbavoor Judicial Magistrate's Court.
