THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the newly completed multi-storey headquarters building of the CPM on the 23rd. The new building with state-of-the-art facilities was built on nine floors on 31.95 cents of land that was purchased opposite the current headquarters, AKG Center, in Palayam. The headquarters building will also be named AKG Center.
Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had purchased 31.95 cents of land for Rs 6.4 crore when he was the state secretary. The foundation stone was laid by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on February 25, 2022. Two underground floors have been set up for parking. 60 cars can be parked. The area of the eco-friendly green building is 5380 square meters. The building is constructed in a way that ensures energy efficiency. The building is completely red in colour.
The current headquarters building is functioning on the land allotted by the government to build a study and research centre for the AKG Memorial Committee. In 1977, when AK Antony was the Chief Minister, 34.4 cents of land was allotted to the AKG study and research centre from the Kerala University premises. Therefore, a board 'CPM State Committee Office' was not installed in this building.
Facilities in the new building
A room for visitors, an office on three floors, a hall for the secretariat, a press conference hall, rooms for the party secretary, state PB members and state secretariat members, 20 rooms on two floors for national leaders including PB members to stay in case they arrive, and a spacious library.
