ALAPPUZHA: A scooter rider bled to death after a tipper lorry ran over his leg. Sakaria (65) of Valanjavattom, Thiruvalla, died after the ambulance arrived late. The accident took place on the Ambalappuzha-Thiruvalla state highway at 8 am yesterday on the road to the Neerettupuram finishing point. Sakaria fell off the scooter while the tipper lorry was reversing, and the rear wheel went through his thigh. The incident took place when he was going to his daughter's house construction site in Neerettupuram.
Passengers who came that way, including Abhijith and Sumesh, rushed to support Sakaria, but his leg was amputated. Champakulam Block Panchayat member Ajith Kumar Pisharath reached the spot and requested ambulance services, but they did not arrive on time. He said that the ambulance arrived about an hour late. Sakaria was then taken to a private hospital in Parumala but could not be saved. The body was handed over to the relatives after a postmortem at the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. The initial report said that the cause of death was blood loss. A case has been registered against the tipper lorry driver. The funeral will be held later. Wife: Suma Sakaria.
