ELATHUR: Mini opened up to the media on her futile attempts to save her son from the clutches of drugs. She tried every possible way to help her son Rahul out of the addiction but to no avail. Mini blamed Rahul’s connections to have made him adhere to drugs.
On Friday, Mini dialled the police and asked officials to take Rahul into custody. The decision came after all her attempts to help him proved futile.
MINI:
“When arrested for crimes involving drugs, Rahul called me from jail and cried. As a mother, I got emotionally drawn to his pleadings and helped him come out on bail twice. Bringing him out on a POCSO case was one of my biggest mistakes.
He has no friends among neighbours. It has been like that since his childhood. Rahul used to get along only with people older than him. He kept a grudge against me for not giving money when requested. He used to create a ruckus and shout; sometimes it went out of control. At first, I tried to cover up his mistakes in the hope that he would change and come out clean. Despite coming out of jail, he remained the same and had no remorse. By January, he was making frequent suicide threats. Even after being admitted to a drug rehabilitation centre, there was no result," said Mini.
Chettikulam native Rahul was arrested by Elathur police yesterday following a complaint from Mini. Mini had to call the police after receiving death threats from her son. Rahul is an accused in POCSO cases at Elathur, Koorachundu, Peerumedu and Koyilandy police stations. Rahul had threatened to kill his father, mother, and sister's three-and-a-half-year-old toddler some nights back.
