THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kodikunnil Suresh said that if you speak openly about some things, it will become controversial, and you will gain enemies. He was speaking after accepting an honour at the Dalit Progress Conclave organised by MP Ramesh Chennithala's Gandhi Gram.

Suresh, who represents the Mavelikara constituency, started his speech emotionally. He said that he is facing a difficult situation.

"If you speak openly, you will have to say a lot. That is why I came with a written speech. It was not easy to win consecutively in a reserved constituency. No one else has been able to win eight times. But I faced many types of attacks. The media spread that he would be the only one to lose. If someone else had been in my place, they would not be able to handle it.

He had requested the leadership to exclude him in the last two elections. He contested because the party asked him to. Party leaders said that it would be difficult for me to win if I did not compete. There are people who have been MPs for longer than me. No one says anything to them. I am the only one who is being hunted down."
