KOZHIKODE: It has been discovered that the complaint of theft of Rs 40 lakh from a car parked in Poovattuparamba was a drama staged by the car owner. The police, who solved the mystery of the incident, arrested the complainant car owner and his friends. The complainant PM Rahees (35), a native of Anakuzhikkara, and his friends Anakuzhikkara native M. Sajid (37) and Jamshid (42), were arrested by the Medical College Police. Rahees had squandered Rs 40 lakh that his wife's father had sent to the company's branches in Kerala on several occasions. ACP Umesh informed that the accused had been faking the robbery when he could not return the money. Rahees had given a quotation of Rs 90,000 to two friends to stage the robbery. The police clarified that there was no money in the car and that instead the bag was filled with paper and that the source of the money was being investigated.

Planned drama

The incident related to the case took place last Wednesday. Rahees had filed a complaint with the police that Rs 40,25,000, including Rs 40 lakh kept in a bag and Rs 25,000 kept on the dashboard, had been stolen by breaking the window of a car parked in the parking area of Poovattuparamba Care Land Hospital. The police, who registered a case and started an investigation, found the CCTV footage. Two men on a scooter were seen smashing the window of the car, taking something from the car and escaping. The accused were wearing helmets and the lack of clarity made it difficult to identify the accused.

Fake number plate

The investigation led by City DCP Arun K Pavithran found that the number plate of the vehicle used to commit the theft was fake. The vehicle was later recovered. The drama broke out when Sajid alias Shaji and Jamshid, who stole the money, were taken into custody and questioned. They admitted to the police that Sajid had taken the quotation as stated by the complainant Rahees and that there was no money in the bag. A case was registered against the accused for filing a false complaint and breach of trust. The accused, who were produced in court, were remanded.
