MUMBAI: Actress Rhea Chakraborty's lawyer has thanked the CBI for its investigation report that Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death was a suicide. "We are grateful to the CBI for investigating the case thoroughly from all angles and concluding the case," he said in a statement.
Sushant was found hanging in his bedroom in Mumbai in June 2020. The report released five years later stated that there was no mystery in the death and that actress Rhea Chakraborty, who was Sushant's friend, could not be found to have played a role in the death.
The Mumbai Police's initial conclusion was that the death was a suicide. Sushant's friend Rhea was investigated after suspicions were raised by Sushant's parents. Rhea Chakraborty, who was later arrested in a drug-related case, served 27 days in jail. There were allegations that the death of Sushant's manager Disha Salian was linked to Sushant's death.
"Deserves respect
There has been a false campaign against Rhea and her family, including in the mainstream media and on social media. They have gone through more hardship than can be described. The family deserves respect for having kept silent even when faced with inhumane treatment," Rhea's lawyer Satish Maneshinde told the media.
Satish Maneshinde said that this country is still safe for those seeking justice and he is grateful to the CBI for being ready to investigate all aspects of the case.
