IDUKKI: The parents of a newborn have been arrested after the infant’s body was discovered in a plantation at Aramanappara Estate, Idukki. The remains, which had been mauled by dogs, were found in a severely damaged state by construction workers installing a water pipe in a cardamom plantation.

The workers immediately reported the incident to the Rajakkad Police Station. Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the baby belonged to a couple from Jharkhand. The parents told the police that they buried the baby as it died after a premature birth.

The police have taken the couple into custody for further investigation. The infant’s remains have been sent to Idukki Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. The police stated that more details would be available only after the post-mortem process.
