WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to bomb Iran if the country fails to reach an agreement on its nuclear development program. In addition, Trump suggested the possibility of reimposing a second round of sanctions. Trump clarified this matter in a telephone interview with a national media outlet.
"If they don't reach an agreement, there will be bombing attacks. Otherwise, there's a possibility of a second round of sanctions, as I did four years ago," said Trump.
The nuclear agreement between Iran and global powers, struck in 2015, aimed to limit Iran's nuclear development in exchange for easing sanctions. However, during his presidency from 2017 to 2021, Trump pulled the U.S. out of the deal, leading to the reinstatement of stringent sanctions. Despite these measures, Iran has made significant strides in its uranium enrichment program.
Iran's government has thus far rejected Trump's threats. In response to his demand for a new nuclear deal, Iran communicated through Oman, sending a letter in reply.
While Western nations contend that Iran’s uranium enrichment is aimed at developing nuclear weapons, Iran maintains that the process is solely for peaceful energy purposes.
