ALAPPUZHA: In the wake of the controversy surrounding the movie Empuraan, Binu Raj, the Secretary of the Mohanlal Fans Association in the Alappuzha district, has resigned. He announced his decision via a Facebook post. However, he did not specify the reasons for his resignation. In his post, Binu Raj expressed gratitude to those who supported him and confirmed his decision to step down. It is believed that Mohanlal's expression of regret following the controversy may have influenced his decision.
In the meantime, the revised version of Empuraan will begin screening today. Reports suggest that three minutes of footage have been removed from the film. Despite it being a holiday, the censor board convened a special meeting on Sunday to finalize the changes. Along with adjustments made to 17 scenes, the name of the villain in the film will also be changed. For portions that could not be edited, the dialogues have been muted.
The political controversy surrounding Empuraan led Mohanlal to publicly express regret yesterday. Director Prithviraj, in solidarity with Mohanlal, shared the actor's post on social media, clarifying his position. In the post, Mohanlal emphasized that it is his responsibility to ensure that none of his films promote hatred toward any political group, ideology, or religious community. He also expressed sorrow over the distress caused to his loved ones and confirmed that the decision to remove certain scenes was made collaboratively, with everyone involved taking responsibility.
