THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More details have emerged regarding the tragic incident in Varkala, where a mother and daughter lost their lives after a vehicle rammed into a crowd returning from a festival. The victims have been identified as Rohini (55) and her daughter Akhila (21) from Pulayan Vilakam house. Authorities are actively searching for the driver of the vehicle involved.

The recovery van, traveling from Varkala to Kavalayoor, crashed into the crowd at high speed, according to reports. Witnesses indicated that the driver appeared to be intoxicated, with alcohol bottles found inside the vehicle. Locals have also claimed that the vehicle struck a young man on a scooter and another car just prior to the crash. The impact of the collision caused damage to the walls and gates of nearby homes.

One local claimed that the driver had an argument with another person at an intersection before the crash. Following the dispute, the driver's wife left the vehicle. It is believed that the driver, angered by the incident, sped off at high speed.

The accident took place around 10 p.m. last night. Two individuals, Ranjith and Usha, were injured and are currently receiving treatment at local hospitals. Despite being rushed to Sree Narayana Mission Hospital, both Rohini and Akhila succumbed to their injuries. Locals have also raised concerns about the delayed response of the police to the scene of the accident.
