THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Empuraan went through 24 cuts in the re-edited version and not 17, as earlier reported by media portals. The scenes depicting violence against women in the film have been completely removed.
"The scene where vehicles pass in the background of religious symbols has also been removed", a prominent Malayalam news channel reported.
Union Minister Suresh Gopi’s name has been omitted from the initial credit scenes. The dialogue between the main villain character and another villain character was removed. The scenes where NIA is mentioned have been muted. The antagonist’s name has been rechristened from Bajrang to Baldev. These things are clarified in the re-editing censor document.
With massive protests and harangues from Sangh Parivar going out of control, the producers acquiesced to make changes to the movie. The censor board held an emergency meeting on Sunday to proceed with the new edit. The mastering work was done at Annapurna Studios, owned by actor Nagarjuna, in Hyderabad.
