Woman in Kannur taken into custody for copying Empuraan in pen drive for Rs 15

KANNUR: A fake copy of the movie Empuraan was seized from a company called Thamburu Communications in Pappinisseri. The police have taken Rekha, an employee of the company and a native of Keeriyadu, into custody.


City Police Commissioner P Nithin Raj had received information that the film was being copied for Rs 15 to people coming with a pen drive. The search was following that. The police found a copy of the movie in the computer of the company and took the hard disks and laptops into custody. The company, which provides internet, photocopying, lamination and printing services, is owned by Preman of Pappinisseri.


A national media had reported that a fake copy of the film was being circulated through various websites and Telegram. According to a national media report, the fake version is also available on the Telegram app in addition to websites like Filmyzilla, MovieRules, and TamilRockers. Prithviraj reacted to the incident by sharing a poster on social media saying, ‘Say no to spoilers and piracy.’ Following that, the cyber police intensified surveillance. The fake copy was removed from the websites. The police had then said that action would be taken against those downloading these.
