IDUKKI: Veteran CPM leader and Udumbanchola MLA MM Mani, who is undergoing treatment following a heart attack, has shown improvement in his health. He has been taken off ventilator support. He will remain in the intensive care unit for two more days. Decisions regarding his discharge and other matters will be discussed after that, the doctors said.
80-year-old MM Mani experienced shortness of breath during the CPM Party Congress in Madurai yesterday. Following this, he was immediately taken to Apollo Hospital. He suffered a heart attack while he was under observation. Reports had claimed that his condition was critical, and prominent CPM leaders had visited him in the hospital.
MM Mani, who had served as the Minister of Electricity during the first Pinarayi Government, is currently a member of the party's State Committee. He had previously faced health issues as well. Mani first became the District Secretary in 1985 and later served as the Idukki District Secretary eight times. He holds the record for being the longest-serving CPM District Secretary in the state. He was also the key person in strengthening the party's foundation in the district, working actively at the forefront.
